Abstract

We have considered so far the homogeneous problem, i.e., we have neglected transport processes such as diffusion, thermal diffusion, and heat conduction. This is true, in the main, in the lower ionosphere, where the electron and ion mean free paths are small. In the upper ionosphere, in the region of the F layer and above, the transport processes, to the contrary, are quite important. They influence the modification of the plasma by the radio waves and therefore to a considerable degree determine the character of the thermal nonlinear effects.
