Abstract

In this paper self-tuning control of parabolic distributed parameter systems is presented. This class of systems include, for example, heat conduction processes.The model is first linearized and discretized both in time and space. Multivariable self-tuning controller of Koivo (1980) is the applied to obtain the control law.For handy computing and testing of different self-tuning structures a computer program, TWOSELF, has been developed. As a case study a plastics extruder is investigated and a multivariable self-tuning control is applied to its temperature control.
