Abstract

Self-written polymer waveguides were integrated by single photon photopolymerization between two single mode fibers with a diameter of 80 µm. The fiber size and photopolymerizable liquid sample allowed bridge length only up to 200 µm long. The optical transmission characteristics of polymer waveguides were investigated in the spectral range of (350 to 1750 nm). The polymer channels showed an average insertion loss value of about 3.5 dB, with bright optical modes on the surface of polymer bridges, making these polymeric photonic structures useful in sensing applications.
