Abstract

In response to the expressed need of manytroubled adults for help in better dealing with their everyday problems, the Old Colony Association for Mental Health of Brockton, Massachusetts, has sponsored courses in Self-Study for the past several years. These courses are organized with aneducational rather than atreatment emphasis although the manner in which each class is conducted draws much from the group therapy model. This paper discusses the group organization, presents anecdotal accounts of significant events in the life of certain groups, and encourages the use of this method in action programs for mental health.
