Abstract

We have observed a stimulated thermal-scattering-mediated self-starting phase-conjugation effect in dye-doped nematic liquid crystal. The buildup time was observed to be in the millisecond range for an input laser power of the order of 0.4 W. Because of the broadband birefringence of nematic liquid crystals, it is expected that the effect could be realized over the spectral regime from the visible to the infrared.
