Abstract

To the Editor:— Recently, inThe Journal(147:1042 [Nov. 10]) mention was made in an article by Welsh of a self-retaining electrocardiographic electrode, which is an ingenious idea and solves most of the problems; however, in exercise tolerance tests and on extremely emaciated or hairy-chested persons, some difficulty may be experienced in using the Welsh electrode. In these cases a very useful device is the simple, homemade electrode holder that I described inSouthwestern Medicine(32:55 [Feb.] 1951). This can be made from two strips of rubber cut from an old innertube, four clothespins, and a tongue blade.
