Abstract
A study was done on 18- to 22-year-old enlisted men in the US Navy to test the cariostatic potential of a self-preparation stannous fluoride prophylaxis technique. An improved treatment method was sought because of the time required for professional application of the three-agent stannous fluoride treatment used in the Navy’s preventive dentistry program. Results after two years showed significant reductions in DMFS and DMFT increments in the treated groups when compared to the control groups.
