Abstract

Women who deliberately self harm are 75 times more likely to report physical or verbal abuse by their partners than those who do not, according to a study of patients in the emergency department of Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge. The authors state that this is the first British prospective study to consider domestic violence in emergency departments specifically, though there are many studies that consider assaults and their aetiology.
