Abstract
Characteristics of the gadolinia coating formed on Sr- and Ca-doped gadolinium chromite during vacuum evaporation were studied in relation to their effects on chromium oxide loss. It is suggested that the very porous coating provides some protection from vaporization by increasing the recapture probability of escaping species, and that the coating might be improved with suitable impurity additions.
