Abstract

Over the past years, levels of automation in cars have been steadily increasing: the development of automated cars is in full swing. It is expected that in the near future even fully autonomous cars will be brought to the market. The automotive industry has stated its intention to start deployment of self-driving cars in 2019. Large companies, such as Google and Tesla, are already testing such cars on public roads, some of which have completed over 500.000 kilometres. Due to the rapid changes taking place, G7 transport ministers and European transport ministers have underlined the need for action. The industry is moving incredibly fast, but can legislation cope?
