Abstract

SINCE THE person-environment in terface was conceptualized as the unique arena for clinical social work, practice wisdom has been the only means to span the chasm be tween psychological and sociological theory in the application of each to practice realities. With the advance ment of the concept of self-differentia tion by current revisionists in the psy choanalytic tradition, notably, Heinz Kohut, Donald W. Winnicott, and Hans W. Loewald, it is now possible to undergird the person-environment conceptualization with an integrated knowledge base that embraces both psychological and social perspectives.
