Abstract

Self-broadened linewidths and intensities have been measured at room temperature for six rotational transitions (from J = 1 to J = 6) of phosphine. The spectra were obtained with a Fourier transform spectrometer operating in the spectral range 10–100 cm −1, with an apodized resolution of 0.060 cm −1. The results on self-broadening coefficients agree with the earlier microwave determination of H. M. Pickett, R. L. Poynter, and E. A. Cohen ( J. Quant. Spectrosc. Radiat. Transfer 26, 197–198 (1981)) for the 1 ← 0 line. Satisfactory agreement was also obtained between the measured and the calculated line strengths. This study completes our earlier work (M. Sergent-Rozey, Nguyen-Van-Thanh, I. Rossi, N. Lacome, and A. Levy, J. Mol. Spectrosc. 131, 66–76 (1988)) on the broadening of PH 3 by H 2 and He.
