Abstract

A 10 year old Caucasian girl is referred by her General practitioner to the paediatric ambulatory unit with an 8 week history of persistent swelling and redness of her left knee. There is no history of trauma or recent foreign travel. There are no other systemic symptoms except she feels tired sometimes. She complains of intermittent pain lasting for up to a week. There is no family history of note. General examination was unremarkable except for minimal pallor. She walks with an antalgic gait, and her left knee is red and swollen with restricted movements and a small joint effusion. There is no leg length discrepancy.
