Abstract

a) The prevalence of recurrent miscarriage is 0.02% in women of childbearing age. b) The chance of a live birth in patients with three miscarriages is approximately 60%, but approximately 25% of patients will have two further miscarriages. c) The prognosis in question (b) is the most accurate prognosis that can be given to the patient. No more accurate information is available to determine the likelihood of a subsequent live birth. d) Most articles assess patients with three or more pregnancy losses. There is little information on the smaller number of patients with a higher number of miscarriages. With more accurate diagnoses, e.g. radio-immune assay for PhCG, many more pregnancies are being diagnosed than in previous years. e)
