Abstract

Two new azo derivatives BPAU and PAAU based on uracil group have been designed and their photophysical properties followed by self-assembly studies were investigated. They were also examined as highly selective and sensitive molecular systems for F− in THF. The chemosensing property of probes has been determined using UV–vis absorption, fluorescence, quantum yield, visual fluorescence colour changes, ESI–MS and 1H NMR titrations. Moreover, DFT calculations were performed to compliment the experimental evidences. To confirm the suitability of probes for biological applications, receptors were successfully applied to imaging for detection of F− in living cells.
