Abstract
If the cariostatic effects of topically ap plied stannous fluoride depend on plaque removal, self-prophylaxis is as beneficial as technician-applied prophylaxis. Some subjects cleaned their own teeth in this study. Others had their teeth cleaned by dental technicians. All used SnFg. The amount of plaque removed in all groups, those brushing their own teeth and those whose teeth were cleaned by the tech nicians, was about the same. Apparently, the patient can perform the first step of the three-agent SnF2 method, thereby saving the dentist’s time and allowing more people to enjoy the benefits of pre ventive dentistry.
