Abstract

This paper analyzes whether guilt and shame-proneness, resilience and self-acceptance can explain the unique variance in predicting locus of control of behavior. The research was conducted on 798 participants from Slovakia. Regression analysis revealed that guilt-repair, negative self-evaluation and shame-withdraw tendencies explained 16% of locus of control of behavior variance. Adding resilience to the predictor increased the variance by 10% and self-acceptance by 7% in the last step. Altogether, shame-withdraw tendencies, resilience and self-acceptance as significant predictors explained 33% of the variance. The correlational matrix yielded many significant relationships between variables, which are talked about in discussion together with possible prevention and intervention strategies.
