Abstract

Whole blood and new growth hair selenium (Se) values were measured in 8 subjects before and following daily ingestion of a selenium enriched yeast supplement (100 mcg/day) for six weeks. Selenium supplementation significantly (p<0.01) increased the mean hair Se content. Selenium supplementation did not significantly influence whole blood Se means. There was no significant correlation between hair and whole blood selenium means.
