Abstract

A method is described for the fluorimetric determination of zinc at the nanogram level, with benzyl 2-pyridyl ketone 2-quinolyl-hydrazone as fluorogenic complexing reagent. The reaction is done at pH 10.5–13.5, in aqueous ethanol medium (80% v/v ethanol). Of 43 foreign ions tested, only cadmium interferes seriously. The method has been applied to the determination of zinc in sea-water, after 25-fold concentration of the sample water.
