Abstract

The Np(V)—Np(VI) electron exchange reaction has been found to be independent of the composition and of the gross properties, dielectric constant, refractive index, viscosity, etc., of two mixed solvents. To account for these phenomena, the critical complex is assumed to consist of a region containing the reactant ions and the solvent component of highest dielectric constant. This component preferentially solvates the ionic reactants. In this region, complete dielectric saturation is also assumed.
