Abstract

Selective laser excitation of the luminescence of a thin film of the π-conjugated polymer poly(p-phenylene) at room temperature is achieved. Monochromatic excitation is selective only for excitation in the long-wavelength wing of the absorption spectrum. This is manifested as a shift of the luminescence spectrum with excitation frequency. The experimental results are interpreted on the basis of model calculations.
