Abstract

It was found that the degree of polarization of the molecular resonance fluorescence of I 2 excited by the 5145 Å argon laser line decreases with increased laser power. A classical model is developed to explain the observed effect which is attributed to the orientation dependence of the absorption cross section of molecular iodine.
