Abstract

A new simple method, selective electroless silver plating, has been developed for fabricating optical fiber probes with protruding tips. The key of the method is the surface treatments of the tapered optical fiber. Surface treatments contain following steps: self-assembly of MPTS, masked UV exposure and catalyst adsorption. By these treatments, selective active binding site of silver is formed in the tapered optical fiber.
