Abstract

An efficient procedure is reported for the selective aerobic oxidation of alcohols to the corresponding carbonyl compounds promoted by CuO-CeO2 nanocomposite in aqueous media. The latter nanocomposite showed high catalytic activity for the aerobic oxidation of various primary and secondary alcohols using oxygen as oxidant. This procedure provides several advantages such as catalyst recyclability, simple work-up, clean procedure, relatively short reaction time and high yields of the products.
