Abstract

According to European and worldwide OSHA regulation and existing arc testing standards it is necessary for people in charge to select appropriate PPE in order to the arc energy level at the working place. Cause of two existing different arc assessment methods it's up to the manager to decide which assessment method is the proper one. While the arc assessment on the basis of NFPA 70E and IEEE 1584 is worldwide most common, the German based assessment on the DGUV standard 203-077 slightly start to get more attention outside of Germany. Both arc assessment methods are strictly bonded to the associated PPE arc rating method. The paper deals with experience of use of both assessment methods in utilities and industry. It shows in a comparison advantages and disadvantages of both methods together with the impacts of the assessment results on the selection of arc protection PEE.
