Abstract

AbstractChanges in nitrogen (N) concentration in the last four leaves formed on rice (Oryza sativa L.) culms of three varieties growing in paddy in the Philippines during the rainy season were studied during the period from formation of flower primordia until after flower emergence. On the basis of stability of N concentration and sensitivity to N supply, the blade of the next‐to‐last leaf (second leaf below the panicle), excised at the time of flower emergence, was chosen as the index leaf.
