Abstract
The selection for resistance to the cattle tick (Boophilus microplus) in beef cattle, is briefly reviewed. Counts of tick numbers are repeatable and tick resistance is heritable, thus making intensive selection for increased resistance effective. However, selection for resistance has not yet been widely adopted by cattle breeders. The reasons for this, under commercial ranching, are discussed.
