Abstract

Acoustic noise impact on most common primary speech codecs used in modern communication systems has been analyzed. The aim of the work is to select the speech codec that provides the highest quality under the action of certain acoustic noise within the specified range of transmission speeds. Experimental studies of the effect of various types of acoustic noise on the entire range of known speech codecs have been carried out. The results were analyzed and experimental dependencies of reconstructed speech signal quality were plotted against signal-to-noise ratio for various speech codecs. Recommendations on the choice of low-speed, medium-speed and high-speed codecs of speech signals in the conditions of the action of acoustic noise with different signal-to-noise ratios are proposed.
