Abstract

How do consumers and professionals go about locating appropriate housing for older adults unable to live independently, what information do they seek, what do housing providers want to know, and do consumers know the key question to ask? This pilot study examines these issues with data gathered from a sample of housing providers and from focus groups of older adults. Many older consumers do not have a clear idea of where to turn for information on housing. Cost and services are the most central issues to consumers, while professionals focus on functional impairment and space availability.
