Abstract

The selection of a short-pulse laser is important in electrical pulse metrology applications where the electrical pulses are generated photoconductively. Not only is the duration of the generated electrical pulse important, but so is the peak amplitude of that pulse. Insufficient pulse amplitude may cause excessive uncertainty in measurement results. An approximation is presented that can provide guidelines to selecting the optimal short-pulse laser according to photoconductor, laser, and measurement system characteristics.
