Abstract

THE ISSUE OF American Biology Teacher containing Werner G. Heim's provocative article Moral and Legal Decisions in Reproductive and Genetic Engineering (34[6]:315) arrived just as we were drawing up a list of readings on human genetics and genetic engineering for use in the senior author's introductory genetics course. We were trying to identify articles dealing with the social, moral, and legal implications of genetic and reproductive engineering that beginning genetics students would find understandable and meaningful. Certainly Heim's article should be included in such a reading list. We hope the bibliography we have produced may prove useful to other biology and genetics teachers. It is presented at the conclusion of the article. The text consists in an explanation of our rationale in making the selections, together with brief appraisive comments on the articles and books.
