Abstract

The monograph touches on the problems of induction, evaluation, optimization and application of decision rules. Chapter 2 discusses the problems of rule induction and rule-based classifier quality evaluation. Two rule induction algorithms are also proposed. Chapters 3 and 4 provide analysis of properties of measures designed for evaluation the rule quality. Minimal sets of the properties, desirable for measures supervising the process of rule induction and evaluating descriptive ability of decision rules are established. The equivalence and similarity of the measures are analyzed. Based on the experimental evaluation, the most effective sets of measures are identified. An adaptive method for the measure selection in the rule induction algorithm is proposed. Possibility of complex and multi-criteria rule evaluation is also discussed. Chapter 5 deals with selected methods of rule pruning. Algorithms of rule aggregation, redefinition and filtration are presented. Chapter 6 presents examples of new applications of rule induction algorithms. In the chapter, two domain-oriented modifications of rule induction algorithms and the method of attribute reduction, taking into account of the semantics of their values, are presented.
