Abstract

The Space Environment Laboratory (SEL) of the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) operates the Space Environment Services Center (SESC), jointly with the U.S. Air Weather Service. This center, which is located in Boulder, Colorado, operates for 24 h d−1, 7 d per week. SESC functions as the U.S. national center for space environment services to meet the common needs of U.S. Government agencies and civilian users. SESC acts both as a Regional Warning Center and as the World Warning Agency of the International Ursigram and World Days Service (IUWDS). To fulfill these responsibilities, the center operates and maintains an extensive, real-time computer data base, which accepts and integrates observational data from many sources and provides on-line operational support and services. This system comprises two parts: SELDADS, the Space Environment Laboratory Data Acquisition and Display System for scalar data, and SELSIS, the Space Environment Laboratory Solar Imaging System for digital imagery of the sun.
