Abstract

AbstractA very simple apparatus for the simultaneous determination of carbon and hydrogen on milligram and submilligram samples is described. The sample combustion products, carbon dioxide and water, are trapped in an evacuated system of two thermal conductivity cells with simultaneous removal of water and carbon dioxide, respectively, so that the signals of the first and second cell are proportional to the amount of hydrogen and carbon burned in the sample, respectively. A single determination, including the weighing of the sample, is performed within 7 minutes.
