Abstract

A seismo-acoustic event is an event in which seismic energy transfers to acoustic energy in the oceans and/or atmosphere and vice versa. Although measurements confirms the coupling between the mediums, a numerical investigation of these events may provide us with a deeper understanding of the phenomena. In this presentation, a finite element, elasto-acoustic Fast Field Program (FFP) is presented and is applied to the recent 2013 and January 6th, 2016 North Korea underground nuclear tests. The aim of this study is to model the elastic and acoustic wave fields of these events and use this information to estimate the source depths. The modeled depths will be compared to those from seismo-acoustical observations.
