Abstract

In the period 1989–91, Shell Offshore acquired several walkaway VSP surveys as part of the evaluation program for development wells in the Mars and Auger areas in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico. Since both fields lie near salt, understanding the salt geometry is critical in the search for additional reserves that are difficult, if not impossible, to detect with standard surface seismic.
