Abstract
The seismic response to a stratigraphic assemblage including evaporite and carbonate units can be very complex. This is not surprising when such factors are considered as the possible range of rock densities and seismic velocities in the various lithologic units, together with the variety of rock fabrics, solubilities and deformational effects often to be found within such an association. This brief study illustrates examples from the Zechstein evaporite basin of the southern North Sea, and comments on the possible geological and geophysical significance of some of the features that emerge from the detailed seismic response.
