Abstract

SummaryThis article aims to propose analytical solutions to calculate the seismic response of horizontal storage tanks under lateral excitation. First, based on the potential fluid theory and appropriate boundary conditions, analytical solutions for seismic response calculations were derived. This method can calculate the dynamic response time series of fluid pressure, fluid sloshing, base shear, and bending moment. Based on this, this study further derived the stress expressions of the tank wall and saddle. Subsequently, we performed a shaking table test of the horizontal storage tank under lateral seismic excitation. The results showed that the analytical solutions were in good agreement with the experimental results. The maximum percentage difference did not exceed 15%, thereby verifying the reliability of the analytical solutions.
