Abstract

Base on the model of dam-foundation dynamic interaction, this paper studied the effect of reservoir on the seismic behavior of concrete arch dam. Three dynamic interaction models were built with the software of ANSYS by means of finite element method. There are interaction models of dam-foundation interaction, dam-foundation-water interaction (Westergaard method) and dam-foundation-water interaction (compressibility). The effect of the compressibility and incompressibility of reservoir on the seismic response of the dam was studied separately. The incompressibility was simulated by the additional mass method. The compressibility was simulated by the dynamic fluid-structure coupling theory and the effect of reservoir on seismic response was analyzed by time-history method. Some useful conclusions were drawn and could provide some references for arch dam design and dynamic analysis.
