Abstract
A mini-sonic borehole probe was used to investigate the excavation damaged zone (EDZ) around an underground opening in the Opalinus Clay in the Mont Terri Rock Laboratory in Switzerland. The EDZ could be determined by using seismic parameters as interval velocities and amplitudes of first arrivals derived from measurements in eight radial drilled boreholes. The extent of the EDZ is about 1m but varies between 0.6 and 2.2m.
