Abstract

abstract A completely geometrical inversion can be performed to determine the shape and position of a boundary between two layer stacks. The constraints are observed epicentral distances, ray parameters, and travel times. The solution is iterative and involves finding all combinations of ray segments that give an observed epicentral distance, and then choosing the correct combination by imposing the travel-time constraint. The entire process can be performed by manipulation of areas in the p-Δ plane.
