Abstract

This study investigates the seismic design of cylindrical liquid storage tanks with a rigid foundation slab resting on elastic soil subjected to sway and rocking motions. To study is composed of the following two parts: (a) Derivation of a vibration model for a cylindrical tank as a super-structure. and (b) Derivation of whole vibration model for a tank-foundation-soil system and seismic response computation of the system. This paper deals with the former part (a). and describes, (2) Interpretation of the modelling procedure for a cylindrical tank-foundation-soil system and input ground motion for the system, (2) Derivation of soil spring, and effective input ground motion for the model. and (3) Derivation of a vibration model of a cylindrical tank as a super-structure subjected to sway and rocking motions. The coming paper will deal with the latter pert(b).
