Abstract

In general, the structure of a building may be thought to be composed of many vertical systems finite by horizontal diaphragms. Diaphragms play a very important role within the distribution of force to the vertical components. The common assumption is formed whereas analysis is that diaphragm can act as rigid diaphragm. In rigid diaphragm action in plane deformation is not allowable. This kind of assumption is good for few of buildings; however, a number of buildings might exhibit in plane flexibility in their floor system. To compare the influence of rigid and flexible diaphragm, an analysis was carried out in the finite element software Midas gen. Rectangular, L shape, U shape, T shape were employed, as well as storey variation G+5, G+10, G+15. Each model examined both with and without a shear wall in place. IS 1893:2002 response spectrum analysis was used to analyse response quantities like storey drift, storey displacement, fundamental natural period, and column axial force.
