Abstract

Abstract A new species of Collembola from a volcanic environment, Seira tongiorgii, is described. This species is morphologically close to Seira ferrarii and Seira petrae. It lives in a very particular habitat, the ≪Solfatara di Pozzuoli≫ crater (Naples), characterized by intense fumarolic activity, by high temperature, and very low pH values of the substratum.
