Abstract

The sea and Brazil have always been close because it was through him that the country was discovered and is currently its main route to foreign trade, in addition to being a source of energy, food and mineral resources. The relationship between the nation and the sea can be understood by studying the operation of Brazilian waterway traffic and how maritime safety is important for national development. To develop this theme, this article provides an overview of basic concepts of waterway traffic and the Blue Economy, discussing traffic safety actions that allow economic development at sea to ensure the safety of vessels. Thus, it concludes that the protection of Brazilian waters, in addition to imposing the sovereignty of the country, is crucial for the future of the country.
