Abstract

In this work we present a review of the more relevant results and conclusions obtained by the authors on the study of the effect of mixing processes on diffusion-limited reactions. We investigate the kinetics of the A + B↠ 0 diffusion-controlled reaction under stoichiometrical conditions in ID. We study the “anomalous” kinetic behavior of such reactions and how this behavior is affected by some stirring processes. In order to do this we consider steady and turbulent flows and in both situations, complex decay patterns are obtained. The closed topology of flow lines in the steady cases and the length and time scales in the turbulent cases are going to determine the spatial organization of the system and consequently the kinetics of the reaction.
