Abstract

The gray level or intensity distribution of an image is frequently inadequate to select a good threshold for image segmentation. Considerable improvement can be achieved by a histogram transformation based on second-order gray-level statistics. This paper describes an approach using the co-occurrence matrix. Results are shown for target extraction in forward looking infrared (FLIR) images.
