Segmentation Based Image Enhancement Technique With Improved Dynamic Range

Abstract

Sometimes the required results are not produced by histogram equalization (HE) technique for image enhancement. Consequently, an improved histogram technique called piecewise maximum entropy (PME) was proposed. PME technique also has some limitation of dynamic range. In this work, an improved PME technique is proposed to enhance the dynamic range. More dynamic range and improved contrast enhancement of an image can be found by the proposed method in comparison of the general PME methods. MATLAB Simulations for the proposed technique have been performed and results are compared with existing methods based on standard parameters such as standard deviation, entropy, and peak signal to noise ratio (PSNR).
