Abstract

Psychology is dealt with extensively by Kambar, in his literary work Kambaramayanam. Kambar while creating his characters, weaves into each of them, an emotional profile, not only elegantly, but also in fine detail. His poignant portrayals profoundly exhibit Kambar’s clear knowledge of psychology and not stopping with his characters, it is pragmatic and relates to psychology of real life individuals. An exemplification to psychological characterizations all through the epic is analysed in Seethai’s confinement at the Asoka Vanam. Seethai’s loneliness and her emotional disturbance, her despondency, desperation and resulting suicidal thoughts and Kambar’s psychological solutions are examined in relation to present day observations and theories on psychology and thereby establishing Kambar’s proficient handling of psychology in his literature is the focus of this research.
