Abstract
The cultural situation of postmodernism requires a specific concept of spiritual care. It is no longer sufficient to take over psychological role models and concepts from the modern age. There is a need of the religious role. A model of spiritual care is being introduced, that has already proven itself in praxis. It follows the mystic path of development and operates in three steps: purification (purificatio), healing (illuminatio), and mystagogy (unio). It integrates the pastoral-psychological perspectives of the modern age and connects them with Christian mystagogy.
